This month the gallery is featuring a trio of talented artists. Though all three are passionate about the visual translation of their ideas through the vehicle of art they think about the role of their art as it is experienced by the viewer in entirely different ways.
Skirting the limits between the “ideal and the real”, G.B. Smith’s brand of Fusion photography challenges the viewer’s interpretation of animals, natural landscapes, and objects the artist has captured over his photographic career which has spanned over four decades. “Whatever the subject, I bring out the essence, not by forcing something that isn’t real to appear, but by emphasizing what is already there and not intuitively seen.” His work engages the audience in a playful visual volley of shape and form which challenges the viewer’s concept of a photograph. His work will be featured on the walls of the main gallery.
The surfaces in the main gallery will display the Sculptural Pottery of Eva Schleich. Eva’s work chronicles the journey and choices she has taken on her personal path of artistic development. The work of this burgeoning artist could be seen as roadmap of how Eva has created her destiny. “As a creature that thrives on immediate gratification, I tend to work quickly. I have a vision and I want to see it through as swiftly as possible. I am a ceramic artist, and I like to push clay beyond its typical use.” She creates work with the intensity and disruptive intention of a Silicon Valley scrum session. The resulting claywork is organic and visually captivating with the boundless wonderment of a Seussian tale.
Our Community Conference Room will feature the work of illustrator Paige Mason. (Blog featured image: Swirl 4 by Paige Mason) Paige has always had high goals and passionately pursued them. It was that tenacity and athletic talent which earned her a collegiate soccer scholarship. She used this opportunity to prepare herself to pursue her dream of becoming a children’s illustrator. Paige has aspirations to utilize the genre of animated production to inspire an increase in Black-American themed concepts in children’s entertainment. Paige has stepped away from her typical cartoon style and developed a series specifically for her show in the Green Office Furnishings Community Conference Room. Paige explains, “With this particular work I’ve found myself influenced by the beautiful colors of traditional African clothing, along with the flowing drapery in Asian art.”
Join us to celebrate the opening of this wonderfully diverse exhibit. The opening reception will be held during our third Thursday ArtHop, August 20th from 5 – 8 PM. As always this event is free and open to the public so bring a friend and enjoy the symphony of color and form adorning the Green Office Furnishings gallery.
