Cynthia explains, “I have become proficient in many mediums, many styles, for many purposes. Experimenting, combining materials and techniques, letting each stroke tell me what the next one should be is where I derive joy in my creative expression.”
Her creative works not only bring her joy, they also brighten the lives of everyone who encounters them. Her community murals can be seen at many local elementary schools such as “The Giving Tree” at Wm. Penn Elementary. Cynthia has also teetered atop a boom lift to complete the large scale graphics seen at high schools throughout the Kern High School District.
Not all of her work stands 14 feet high; she also enjoys painting on a more traditional scale reproducing her bold and organic style in water colors, oils, acrylics, and ink on canvas. As she was developing her artistic talents growing up Cynthia remembers that watercolors were always her favorite medium. She recalls, “It is a hard medium to use for many. You have to think backwards to keep the light. Thinking backwards is what I do well.”
Her unique perspective and coveted artistic skills have led to an adventurous career in many fields from co-owner operator of a sign and custom hand lettering business, to commissioned illustrations and custom murals. This variety has allowed her to amass experience in non-traditional techniques like airbrushing, pin-striping, glue-chipped and sand-blasted glass, wood-carving, and large scale paper mache.
Cynthia is always looking to push the limits and discover new ways to create. Her artistic talent is available for custom commissioned applications. Some of her past commissioned work includes illustrating a children’s book, original watercolors on a variety of subjects, and numerous murals in private residences.
