As his Instagram and Twitter handle (ControlledLight) indicate, this artist manipulates the brilliance of color and depth of shade created by light.
Conway produces compelling images utilizing all of the techniques in his toolbox from painting a long forsaken object with an ethereal tone crafted through carefully contrived contrast in black and white, to utilizing a long exposure time to bring gem like depth and brilliance to a starry sky. Even a mundane stretch of a cloud darkened highway becomes a pathway leading up to a sun kissed destination when captured through Donovan’s lens. His logo most certainly nods to his love for natural landscape compositions and his aptitude for framing breathtaking natural scenes.
Conway has a great appreciation for art and actively participates in our local community. You can find Donovan all over the Valley snapping photographs of artists alongside their work while exploring galleries during ArtHop. He also enjoys capturing images outside of galleries such as his recent series of photographs which highlight the trail of flames being spun by local fire artists. His portraits seem to coax the inner personality out of his subjects, be it their everyday personality or their Cosplay alter egos.
His current exhibition titled Organized Chaos takes the viewer on a visual journey through both the staged and candid adventures Donovan has been a part of over the past 7 years. Organized Chaos will be the artist’s 32nd exhibition in and around the Central Valley. Donovan has hand selected his favorite photographs and has framed over 60 images for the exhibition.
